Melbourne International Singers Festival is thrilled to announce that Simon Kenway, will be our Guest Conductor for 2017, leading the massed choir rehearsals, workshops and concerts in our 8th consecutive Singers Festival.
Message to you from our Artistic Director, Dr Jonathon Welch AM
With just two weeks to go to our 8th annual Melbourne International Singers Festival, we have so much wonderful news to share with you….and some disappointing news also.
Due to ill health, Richard Gill unfortunately has to withdraw from the Melbourne International Singers Festival. Richard very much regrets not being able to proceed and wishes all participants a rewarding and enjoyable Festival. Of course, we all wish Richard a speedy recovery and we are hoping that he will be able to join us in 2018 for our 9th Melbourne International Singers Festival as our Guest Conductor.
We are delighted to announce however, that renowned Australian conductor, Simon Kenway, will be replacing Richard as our Guest Conductor at the festival, leading our festival choruses, workshops & masterclasses.
Simon Kenway is a highly respected orchestral/operatic conductor, music educator and accompanist. He has held posts as Principal Chorus Master of Opera Australia and Chief Vocal Coach for Sydney Conservatorium Opera School and now works as a freelance conductor. In 2015, he was appointed Artistic Director of Pacific Opera..
